[Brussels] At a time when the world is trying to recover from Covid-19, and already facing a serious energy crisis, Huawei realizes the urgency to support the EU Green Deal and help to provide sustainable energy solutions in Europe. On the occasion of the 2021 edition of the EU Sustainable Energy Week, Huawei organized a DigitALL Lunch Debate to look at “the SDG7 Dilemma: How and who can ensure affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy in Europe.

The debate confirmed that Europe is not on track to achieve SDG7 by 2030, highlighting three challenges: energy efficiency, share of renewables, and access to affordable energy. While the EU leaders gathered at the European Council Summit on Thursday 21 October to debate about the current energy crisis, Tony Jin, Huawei’s Chief Representative to the EU Institutions, underlined that technology solutions are available on the market and can help overcome the challenges and achieve the energy transition. These solutions include  iSolar (to produce power and reduce consumption), iCooling (integrating big data and AI to enable data centers to save power), photovoltaics solutions, and digital oil and gas solutions.

The debate concluded that public-private partnerships are key to a successful energy transition. To this end, Arvea Marieni, Head of Energy Transition of the Strasbourg Policy Center urged Huawei to continue itswork  to let technology solve climate challenges.

“Huawei is a very green company”, concluded Tony Jin, “we are in Europe, for Europe, and now more than ever, for a sustainable Europe. We hope that through open and transparent global collaboration and cooperation we can fulfil the 2030 promise and jointly contribute to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
